Mommy Brain

Yesterday I went to the grocery store. Super Wal-Mart to be exact. One of the must-get items on my list was microwave popcorn. I walked up and down the aisles getting my groceries and when I was finished I noticed that I had not picked up my popcorn yet. I went back to the chip aisle....no popcorn. I then went to the cracker and snack foods aisle...no popcorn. After 20 minutes of meandering up and down every imaginable aisle with a screaming baby, I finally gave in and asked the stock boy where the popcorn was. I had chalked it up to a bad case of Mommy brain. Where was the popcorn you ask? In the liquor(!) aisle of course. Why didn't I think to look there???!!!

One of those days

Just so you know, Daddy was in the same room as MJ at the time this happened. About two feet away....
FYI: That is ink from a stamp pad all over his face, not blood :-)

Kung Pao Popcorn?

Today we had Chinese for lunch. I enjoy eating my Chinese food with chopsticks and feel like I am pretty good at using them. MJ noticed that my utensils were different than the ones he was using and tonight decided to eat his popcorn with chopsticks. Imagine my surprise when I saw him using them correctly! We also decided today that excluding nap time and nighttime, MJ is done with diapers. We had four successful visits to the potty today and three accidents. Not bad for the first day.

Ouch!

MJ had his 3-year check up today. He actually didn't do too terribly bad considering he received three shots. One for each year perhaps? On the way to the pediatrician's office, MJ was telling me all about how the doctor was going to look in his eyes and nose and mouth and then he was going to get a Happy Meal. After his shots, tears, and choosing four stickers from the sticker drawer, we loaded back in to the van to go home. Going through the drive-thru for the promised Happy Meal MJ informed me that "those guys were mean". Poor little guy, he'll never want to go back to the doctor again.
On a positive note, he has gained 5 pounds and grown 4 inches over the past year. He's between the 75th and 80th percentiles for both!

Jinx?

I really contemplated even posting this. Molly is napping....in her crib (in her room)! For the last seven weeks she has slept either in her swing or bassinet during the day. This is not a problem during the week but on the weekends her brothers frequently wake her up. She really seems to like the ocean sounds feature on her swing. This morning we took a trip to BabiesRUs and purchased the above sound machine. It has 10 different sounds and claims on the box "Soothes crying babies to sleep - Guaranteed". All I know is it almost soothed me to sleep. The real question is: "Why am I blogging and not sleeping myself?"

Smiling..sort of

I've been trying for a week to get a good picture of Molly smiling. Smiles are still few and far between and a little crooked as she learns to perfect them. Of course the best ones are when the camera is out of reach. The second picture is of her napping on a lazy Sunday and the third is of her in a summery outfit to go with the 77 degree weather today.

Mom, this one's for you

It has been brought to my attention that it has been seven posts since you've seen any pictures of Molly. She turned 6 weeks old yesterday, weighs over 10 pounds (!), and is getting cuter by the minute (if I do say so myself).

Bittersweet

I must feel like blogging today. During Molly's afternoon nap I went downstairs and started going through the box labeled "Robyn's Big Clothes". These are clothes that I had put away after losing weight in 07-08 hoping to never see again. With the warmer weather arriving I have decided that yes, I do need some shorts and capris that I don't have to squeeze myself in to. I was successful in finding a few pairs and while trying on a pair of cute white capris I noticed something in the pocket. A $5 bill! I will be very happy when I can put these clothes back in the box but in the mean time it feels nice to wear some clothes that fit.

It was a success....sort of

After Bobby, Molly and I took MJ out for a birthday breakfast, I took him back to the infamous haircut place to attempt try number 2. Though it started very similarly to the last time and many tears were shed, hair was cut and my boy looks like an older, 3 year old version of the child I brought in.

Happy Birthday MJ!

Happy Birthday to my most favorite St. Patty's Day baby! Can't believe you're 3!

Ouch!

Two nights ago I woke up for a middle of the night feeding. Certain parts of my anatomy responsible for feeding felt like they had been hit with a sledgehammer. I had my suspicions that it was Mastitis since I had it twice with MJ. My suspicions were confirmed when I woke up feeling like I had the flu. Luckily my doctor called me in antibiotics and with those and Tylenol I am happy to report I am feeling much better.

Messy Marvins

MJ has been asking for "cold spaghetti" for days now. (It's a Wiggles reference) I decided to surprise him and make spaghetti for supper tonight. Though it was warm it was well received. The question is: Who's hand print ended up on the wall?

Haircut ~ Schmarecut

I attempted my first outing this evening with two children by myself. I fully expect that once I can lift more than Molly's car seat this will be an easier task. I decided to take Molly and MJ to get MJ's hair cut which he desperately needed to have done. I was prepared for the outing and the potential wait. I let MJ bring his DVD player and even broke out a new DVD for the occasion. On the way there we passed a McDonald's which sparked a promise of ice cream for a successful haircut and good behavior.

An hour later there is a crying baby, a disheveled mother and a little boy with no haircut due to a temper tantrum. It's really too bad because I really wanted ice cream!

This weekend we may try "Shear Madness", a child-friendly salon with a couple of locations in the metro. The picture above shows the allure of such a child-friendly place.

One Month Old Today!

Happy Birthday Molly! Tomorrow she has her 1 month well-check. I know I'll be sad to see how big she's gotten so quickly!

Guilty Pleasure

There are very few shows that Bobby and I enjoy watching together. A few years ago we would gather on Sunday nights for the Grey's Anatomy/Desperate Housewives duo. Though he would never like to admit it, he rarely missed an evening with the doctors of Seattle Grace and the women of Wisteria Lane. Once Izzy tried to resuscitate the deer, he vowed to never watch those girly shows again.

Last year we started watching Nip/Tuck. I am now addicted. It's total trash with a very odd plot. It's mindless television and I'm sad to see the season end tonight. I guess it will be back to seperate tv's until next season.

Snow and Swaddle

As another weekend comes to a close, I reflect back on the highs and lows.

Highs:

  • MJ learned to peddle his tricycle (in our kitchen see link)
  • My girlfriend Debbie invited me out for coffee this afternoon. It was great to escape for some girl time!
  • An uneventful first trip to church for Molly followed by an even more uneventful lunch at El Maguey (a Sunday tradition)
  • Bobby gave both boys a bath without being reminded
Lows:

  • RJ woke with a bloody nose which got on his sheets
  • 5" of snow meant no "church babysitter" last night (a church in Lee's Summit provides *free* babysitting once a month for special needs kiddos and their siblings-I look forward to it for weeks on end
  • A small breakdown on my part last night resulting in a getaway trip to Target for Molly and I (OK, maybe that was actually a high

All things considered it was a pretty good weekend. Looking forward to the 60 degree temperatures that are promised for this week.
