Priceless Art

My friend Debbie inspired me to try a project with my kids tonight. An abstract piece of art for the living room. Much more meaningful than anything I could have purchased.

Wax On...Wax Off

Ok, so I didn't wax the floors but I did clean them. On hands and knees mind you. The sole purpose of this post is so that I remember what they look like today. I may never do it again.

Waste of a Good Hair Day

Today I was supposed to have a relatively important meeting. I was relieved to see that despite the rain and humidity, I was having a good hair day. With curly hair, good hair days seem to be a dime a dozen. My meeting got cancelled! What a waste of a good hair day! Yes, this is me, sitting in a parking lot, taking a picture of myself with my camera phone.

Sittin' Pretty....Finally

Though I know Molly will do everything in her own time, I was getting a little concerned in her complete lack of interest in sitting. Tonight she seems to have really grasped the concept and even enjoyed it a little.

Anyone need a cat?

Almost exactly one year ago, this mama cat took up residence in our neighbor's garage. One year and three litters later (the last litter being delivered this morning in our front flower bed), I think it's time to get this mama cat fixed. By the way, whose responsibility are these kittens?

Things I Know To Be True

  • One bite in = Two bites out
  • Spit up or poop immediately follows a bath
  • If you talk about how your child slept through the night, it won't happen again
  • Stick to hardwoods and tile with three kids and a dog (see below)
  • Resolve makes blood on carpet disappear for a few minutes...it comes back
  • Slaving away making a home-cooked meal almost always means kids won't eat a bite
  • The best toys are boxes and paper towel tubes
  • Clothes can be pajamas, and vice versa
  • The world makes a lot more sense in the eyes of a 3 year old
  • The "Pick-Up Fairy" may be the best idea ever (more on this later)
  • Motherhood is exhausting.....and rewarding

Chatterbox

Classy People

Our neighbor's house is being foreclosed on. It's a sad situation that we're seeing way too much of it in our neighborhood. I've been noticing them slowly moving their stuff out here and there, knowing the inevitable is coming. Yesterday, the husband mowing the lawn. They still water their grass, prune their flowers and have the outside of their house looking meticulous. I have to say I am impressed. Some people take everything down to the doorknobs out of their house when this happens to them, leaving a disaster of a shell behind. Not this couple. We will miss them as neighbors.

It was RJ's first day of school but MJ wanted in the pics too.

Official Weigh In

ONE WEEK

TWO MONTHS

FOUR MONTHS

SIX MONTHS

SIX MONTHS TAKE TWO

Last Thursday, Molly had her 6 month check. Once again, the doctor was pleased with growth and progress. She isn't sitting well yet but he said it was only a matter of time. She has the strength, she just needs to work on balance. She weighed in at 17 lbs, 8 oz and was up to 26 1/2" in length.

Iowa State Fair 2009

As is tradition, this weekend MJ and I headed up to the Iowa State Fair. We didn't see as much this year but I still feel like I saw enough and MJ was a fabulous trooper. The day consisted of lots of rides, food and attractions and ended with the traditional nap.

I'll Tumble for Ya

So, RJ has mastered a new milestone. Stair climbing. With stair climbing comes stair falling. He is fine but the baby gates are going back up (they would have had to soon with Molly anyway).

Thanks Dr. M

I have to give a shout out to my primary care doctor. Though I have seen my OB the majority of the time for past 6 years, I do occasionally see my primary care for sore throats etc. Last week I visited the Minute Clinic at CVS for a severely sore throat. They swabbed me, made sure it wasn't strep (it wasn't), and sent me home with a Tylenol recommendation. This morning Dr. M called saying that he was reviewing reports he had gotten and noticed I went in to be seen at CVS. He was calling to see how I was and if I needed anything. With the lack of customer service that I receive in my day to day life, a five minute personal phone call made me feel special, important and appreciated. Thanks Dr. M.

Movin' on Up

Molly had her first taste of solid food this evening. She did fairly well considering she has never had anything but breastmilk. More of it ended up on her than in her but we can only get better from here.

Sniffle Sniffle (Allergies)

I went to an allergist today to discover just what exactly I am allergic to. It may have been easier to determine what I am NOT allergic to. The positives include: dust, cats, dogs, trees and grass. Luckily the chocolate test was negative.

How is this possible?

How in the world can Molly be 6 months old already? Though on one hand it seems like I've known her forever, on the other it seems like I was *just* pregnant. I won't have official 6 month stats until next week at her check-up but some items to note:
-She is somewhere in the neighborhood of 17 pounds

-Sitting independently (kind of) using her arms to support her

-Is starting to scoot in a circle and backwards (which really ticks her off)

-Has her two bottom teeth and seems to be working on more
-Hasn't started solids yet but will in the next couple of weeks

"Call 1-800 Steeemer"

This morning I was noticed just how gross our carpets have gotten. I decided to book an appointment this week to have them cleaned. I went online to Stanley Steemer's website to see when they might be able to fit me in. Imagine my surprise when I saw a slot open today between 12-4. I'm working from home today so I decided to give a go. I received my confirmation at 11:30 this morning via e-mail. It is now 12:49 and they have been here and left already! Talk about speedy service!

Back to School = Not a Bargain

Today I went to Wal-Mart to buy a few groceries and get the boys' school supplies. The reason I chose Wal-Mart is because they recently started a price-matching policy. If you have a competitors ad with a lower price, they will honor the price. Keep in mind they are both in PRE-SCHOOL. I still spent $50 on school supplies. Nothing crazy, nothing big. We're talking crayons, scissors, Kleenex etc. I can't imagine what it will be like when I have kids in high school!

It's the Wiggles!

Several months ago I had heard that The Wiggles were coming to Kansas City. I had looked at tickets at the time but decent seats were going to be $70ish for two of us to go. Ouch! I decided not to mention anything to MJ about it and see if I could potentially get them last minute. The show started at 5:30 tonight and I bought tickets off of Craigslist for 1/2 of face value at 2:30. MJ had a fabulous time, and so did I! Sam, the yellow Wiggle even came within a few feet of us.
