Locked and Loaded

We now have an arsenal of 4 EpiPens just in case the incident mentioned below happens again. RJ did have his blood drawn today and they are testing for everything (environmental allergies, food allergies, and a breakdown of specific nut allergies) Hopefully we'll know what triggered this in a couple of days.

Puffy

Last night RJ went with Bobby to visit his parents. When he returned he was obviously having an allergic reaction to something. Face was swollen, covered in hives, his palms were itchy and his tongue was swollen. RJ has gone to my in-laws many times over the last five years and has never had any reaction. I asked Bobby if he had eaten anything. Bobby said that he did have part of a Kashi cereal bar. We called my in-laws to see what ingredients were listed. Cashews, Walnuts, Almonds and Coconut amongst other things. I called "Ask A Nurse" who informed me that it was most likely a tree nut allergy which was confusing to me since Ryan has no reaction to peanuts. I quickly found out that peanuts are not in fact part of the 'nut' family but rather a legume. Therefore, one can have an allergy to most nuts and not be allergic to peanuts. We are taking him to the doctor tomorrow to see exactly what it is that he's allergic to.

SuperMom

I am a long way from being a SuperMom. (Not to be confused with being a super mom) A 35 minute visit to the vet today made me feel a little more indestructible. Babysitter had the day off so Bobby, my mother-in-law Diane and I juggled the kiddos today. After Diane finished her shift (thank you for your help!) Hannah had to go to the vet for her annual check, shots and to have a yucky growth removed. I loaded up the van with all three kids, the wheelchair, the Baby Bjorn and the dog in tow. We got out at the vet, Molly was put in the Bjorn, RJ in his wheelchair and *thankfully* MJ walked. The kids were AWESOME. Hannah had all of her procedures done and we made it home in one piece.

Siblings with a Side of Ham

Had to share these recent pics. First, RJ is starting to think Molly is pretty tolerable. Secondly, the kids were sharing a loving moment in front of the T.V. (good parenting, I know). Finally, this morning Molly had to share her cheesy smile before heading off to daycare.

A Systematic Mess

What you see pictured above is one weeks worth of Jones laundry. Actually, that's not even all of it. Sheets were washed and put back on beds and some have been put away before this picture was taken. I have a method to my madness and certain people in this household like to *help*. When that happens, my system gets thrown off and laundry starts to pile up. It's all washed, dried and folded but not put away. It is going to be put away today and the system starts over tomorrow.

Weekend In Review

  • Pretty uneventful really. Bobby's parents watched the kids Friday night so we could go to the Blue Springs "Fall Fun Fest". Wasn't that much fun. Went to 54th Street shared an appetizer and a drink and stopped at Hy-Vee on the way home. Another typical date night.
  • Saturday, Bobby went to the MU Game (Go Tigers!) The two younger Joneses and I dropped RJ off at Bobby's parents, ran to Costco, spent too much money and came home to do some electrical work. Now an electrician is coming to the house this week.
  • Today involved church, yard work and three kids in their own beds asleep before 8:00. Perfect way to end the weekend.

I'm Pathetic

Three embarrassing facts about me-
1) I own a Nintendo DS (yes it's mine, all mine)

2) I play it every night before bed
3) I got mad at MJ tonight because he started my game over (a game I was 4+ hours in to)

Happy Anniversary!

Happy 43rd Mom and Dad!

Trick or Treat down the Yellow Brick Road

I've been trying to figure out what my kiddos can be for Halloween this year. I had several options: Peter Pan, Captain Hook & Tinkerbell; Fred, Barney & Pebbles; Flounder, Sebastian & Ariel. Then I found this Lion costume for $2 and I decided...... The Lion, The Scarecrow and Dorothy. Now if I could convince Bobby to be the Tin Man, I could be the Wicked Witch we would really be a site!

Product Rave

Yesterday I had an all-day meeting and Bobby needed to pick the kids up from the sitter. I wanted them to have a good meal when they got home (rather than the Lunchable that is sitting in our fridge). I threw the ingredients in the crockpot before I left. I came home to a house smelling wonderful and a dinner that looked like I had slaved away in the kitchen all day. This is what I added to the mix:

1 lb raw chicken breast, chopped
1 cup of onion, chopped
1 cup of celery, chopped
1 cup of carrots, chopped
5 cups of water.
10 minutes before serving, throw in some egg noodles.

*Mine ended up a little more stew-like than the soup consistency that is shown on the package but it cooked for about 10 hours instead of the recommended 8.
Delicious!

What could this be?

MJ woke up this morning with his right legs swollen to almost twice the size of his left. No doubt it's a bite of some sort but what? The lump is hard as a rock but doesn't seem to be bothering him otherwise. I'm going to try to get him in to the doctor today.

First Day of School...Round 2

MJ had his first day of preschool today. He did great! He hopped in the car when I picked him up and said "We learned about the letter 'K' today, 'K' is my favorite letter!". He also told me that they played outside and he was playing the "shooting game". I'm sure this church-based preschool is thrilled that my son is teaching the other kids to play cops and robbers.

Unofficial Milestones

So much attention is given to the "official" milestones: sitting up, crawling, walking etc. Molly hit one of her "unofficial" milestones this week. Sitting in a restaurant high chair with no support. Go Molly!

Here we go again

Molly has had a fever since Sunday night. I would have bet money it was her ears. Shockingly, it's not. Just an upper respiratory infection. Nebulizer treatments and a Z-Pack and she should be good as new. That is until the next bug comes along.
