This House

Today I said goodbye to my childhood home.  Well, one of my childhood homes.  My parents have lived here 20 years (to the month no less!) and will be moving next Friday to their new home which is only 15 minutes away from me!  I am so ecstatic for them to live close by but I must admit it's a little bittersweet saying goodbye to the home where I have had so many wonderful memories.  This is the home where I posed with prom and homecoming dates on the front steps, it's the driveway where I spent hundreds of hours shooting hoops, the same driveway where I came home from basketball practice on my 16th birthday and discovered an '87 Dodge Ram pickup waiting.  And finally, the front door through which each of my siblings and I brought one my parent's nine grandchildren to visit for the first time.  Tears fell as I pulled away but nothing can compare to the joy it brings me that my parents will be even more present in my life and the lives of my children in the coming years.

This made me cry, too, thinking about all our high school memories in that house! But here's to new memories with your parents so close to your family!
