Walking

Wow. Though it shows I used a lot of elevators and escalators today, check out how many steps I took checking out the Mall of America and IKEA today. No wonder my legs are tired!  Unfortunately, I think I ate enough calories to cancel out all the exercise!

Could you share some of those steps with me! I truly sat on my backside the entire day.

Dad and I have been using the Cyclometer iPhone app which seems to work pretty well for both biking and walking, though I have had trouble with it when I walk/ride laps around a circular path as it tends to think I'm short-cutting through people's yards. For him walking or biking on his trail though it works great because everything is straight and so doesn't it short-cut anything due to circular loops. I'd be tempted to get that FitBit device, but have to admit I'm skeptical of its calorie counts based solely on steps. For example, based on other calculators, a 10 mile walk over 8 hours burns 1300 calories, another one says 1500 calories, and yours apparently says over 2000 calories. Hard to say what's accurate? Cyclometer and LoseIt are relatively consistent with one another, though LoseIt doesn't take into account as many variables as the Cyclometer app.

Rich, the 2000 is considering all calories I've burned just existing. So it takes it to account my sleep etc. if I sat still all day and didn't move, it would still show the total calories I "burned"

Ah, that makes more sense. That's kind of unusual though since most things subtract "resting" calories. Does it have an option to switch between total and net?
